Jim Forbes is 51 years old, an MBA and a former investment banker with Bank of America and former broker with Merrill Lynch. Forbes has been a registered Commodity Trading Advisor (CTA) member since 1986 and serves as an arbitration panelist of the National Futures Association. Outside of trading, Forbes puts his extensive background in business to good use by teaching finance at a local college.
Forbes is a discretionary trader who perpetually evaluates the economic, political and social environments in conjunction with his study of price charts. Despite receiving high rankings by managed futures industry authorities such as The Barclay Group and International Traders Research, he remains humble and prefers to let the performance of his trading speak for itself. Forbes speculates on futures contracts and options across all market sectors. He emphasizes the importance of sound money management while in pursuit of trading opportunities in the market.
There are several characteristics of Jim Forbes CTA that set him apart from other traders in the industry. First, Forbes allows for greater participation of investors by offering a lower minimum equity allocation to the program. Whereas many reputable traders may require between $250,000 to $500,000 to get started, investors can join Forbes with as little as $40,000. Note that larger accounts do offer greater flexibility in the types of strategies he can implement on an investor's behalf and he does reserve the right to increase the minimum in the future. Second, Forbes CTA offers investors the ability to choose from a flexible fee schedule. One of the most popular management options includes an "incentive only" structure where Forbes receives compensation only if investors are profitable and no applicable management fee (unlike the industry standard 2% of equity). This characteristic of the CTA ensures that Forbes' best interests are parallel with participating investors. Third, Forbes does not share in brokerage commission to execute trades. Many other CTAs share in brokerage commission and may be tempted to overtrade. Finally, investors seeking greater leverage in their account may qualify for "notional" funding with Forbes.
